PR Tax & Accounting needed to modernize their client workflow — replacing email chains and physical document drop-offs with a secure, streamlined digital experience. The primary challenge was building a system that was both highly secure for handling sensitive financial documents and simple enough for clients of all technical abilities to use confidently. We developed a full-featured client portal with bank-grade security throughout. Clients can upload tax documents through an encrypted pipeline, track the status of their tax preparation in real-time with a visual progress timeline, book appointments with their accountant through an integrated calendar, and receive automated reminders for upcoming deadlines and missing documents. The accountant-side dashboard provides a complete view of all active clients, document statuses, and preparation workflows with priority sorting. A built-in task management system helps the team track each filing from initial document collection through to CRA submission and refund confirmation. The platform features AES-256 document encryption at rest, role-based access control with multi-factor authentication, automated email reminders via Resend for upcoming deadlines, a drag-and-drop document organizer with automatic categorization, multi-year filing history with year-over-year comparison tools, and a secure messaging system for confidential client-accountant communication. The entire system is built with PIPEDA compliance as a foundational requirement.
