About This Project
Northern Logistics operates a fleet of 200+ vehicles across Ontario and needed to replace their manual dispatch system with a real-time digital solution. The existing process relied on phone calls, paper logs, and spreadsheets, leading to route inefficiencies, missed delivery windows, and a complete lack of visibility into live fleet operations.
We built a real-time logistics dashboard anchored by an interactive MapBox-powered map that displays every vehicle in the fleet with live GPS positions updated every 15 seconds via WebSocket connections. Dispatchers can see vehicle status at a glance — en route, at stop, returning, or idle — with color-coded indicators and estimated arrival times for active deliveries.
The dispatch management system features drag-and-drop route assignment, automated multi-stop route optimization that factors in traffic patterns, road conditions, delivery time windows, and vehicle capacity constraints. The communication module allows dispatchers to send route updates, priority changes, and messages directly to driver devices without phone calls.
Key features include real-time fleet tracking with configurable geofencing alerts for zone entry/exit, automated route optimization reducing average fuel costs by 18%, proof-of-delivery capture with photo documentation and digital signature, fuel consumption analytics with cost-per-mile breakdowns by vehicle and route, predictive vehicle maintenance scheduling based on mileage and usage patterns, driver performance scorecards tracking on-time delivery rates, idle time, and safety metrics, and comprehensive reporting with scheduled CSV and PDF exports for management review. The entire dashboard is designed for 24/7 dispatch operations with role-based views for dispatchers, managers, and drivers.
